Dioxins

Dioxins and furans are among the most toxic chemicals you can be exposed to.

They are closely related and have similar biological and physical properties.

Both are organic pollutants (POPs) that remain in the environment and in the bodies of humans and animals for a long time. They also have an endocrine effect. This means that they damage reproduction.

Heating with wood generally emits far more toxic pollutants than other heat sources. Dioxin concentrations are particularly high in private households that heat with wood, which is why wood heating is considered the most harmful source of heat.
